Most people who come to Kaş for three days make the same mistake: trying to see everything and seeing nothing properly. Six ancient cities, a sunken town, a Greek island and a dozen coves don’t fit into a long weekend. What does fit is this: one day in town, one day by boat, one day on the road. The pattern has held up for years; below is the hour-by-hour version, and after it the parts to swap depending on the season.

The plan starts at Luna Kaş; distances are from the hotel. The only day that needs a car is day three — and there’s a car-free option for that too.

Day 1 — Kaş itself

On foot. Küçük Çakıl, the Lion Tomb, Uzun Çarşı, sunset at Antiphellos, evening in the square. No car, no plan, no clock.

Day 2 — Kekova by boat

Full day. Boat from Üçağız, the sunken city, Kaleköy, a swim at Tersane Bay. Alternative: the ferry to Meis.

Day 3 — West along the coast

By car. Kaputaş at midday, Kalkan in the evening. Gömbe in August, the Lycian Way in winter.

Day 1: Kaş Itself

08:00 — Breakfast on the terrace. A tip for early risers: the sun comes up behind the hills, so the sea is lit before the town is; go down to Küçük Çakıl at seven and the shore is yours.

09:30 — Küçük Çakıl, 300 metres. The town beach: pebbles, a platform, clear water. First swim here. For a longer beach, Büyük Çakıl is 1.2 km.

12:00 — The Lion Tomb, 200 metres. A Lycian sarcophagus standing in the middle of a street. From there into Uzun Çarşı: narrow lanes, white plaster, bougainvillea; rock-cut Lycian tombs in the hillside directly above you. Lunch in the bazaar or by the harbour.

15:00 — Siesta. In summer there’s no point being on the street between three and five; room, shower, shade.

17:30 — The Antiphellos theatre, 1.1 km west. A Hellenistic theatre cut into the slope above the sea; free, unfenced. Go in the last hour of light, sit on the top row and watch the sun go down behind Meis.

20:00 — The square and the harbour. Dinner, then a walk along the harbour. This is where you’ll board the boat tomorrow morning.

Day 2: Kekova by Boat

08:00 — Early breakfast. The hotel to Kaş harbour is a ten-minute walk; most boats from the harbour leave between nine and half past. If you’ve chosen an Üçağız boat, it’s a transfer or a car, 45 minutes.

10:00–13:00 — The north shore of Kekova Island: staircases, walls and amphora fragments under the water. The boat slows; you look through a glass bottom or from the deck. Swimming over the sunken city is prohibited.

13:00 — Kaleköy (Simena). Ashore in the village, up to the castle — fifteen minutes, stony, sweaty; Lycian sarcophagi at the top and the whole bay below. Lunch in the village or on the boat.

15:00 — Swim stop at Tersane Bay or Aquarium Bay. The best hour of the day; reapply sunscreen.

17:00 — Back. Hotel, shower, down to the square for dinner. A boat day is tiring; keep the evening short, you’re on the road tomorrow.

Alternative — Meis: Another country instead of a boat. A twenty-minute ferry from Kaş harbour to Kastellorizo: pastel houses, one square, a water taxi to the Blue Cave, back in the afternoon. Passport essential; check sailing days in advance. The right swap for anyone who gets seasick or has already seen the sunken city.

Day 3: West Along the Coast

09:30 — Set off. The coast road runs west from Kaş for twenty minutes; go early — Kaputaş’s roadside car park is small and full by eleven.

10:00–14:00 — Kaputaş. Down the stairs, the colour of the water changing as the sun climbs, the cold freshwater current from the mouth of the canyon. Little shade; umbrellas for hire.

14:30 — Seven kilometres on to Kalkan. A late lunch, then a walk through the streets above the harbour. Tidier, quieter and pricier than Kaş — an afternoon is enough to compare.

18:30 — Sunset in Kalkan harbour, or half an hour back to Kaş and out to the Çukurbağ peninsula: the only place near town where the sun sets into open sea, 4 km.

Without a car: The Kaş–Kalkan minibus passes right by Kaputaş; get off there in the morning, carry on to Kalkan in the afternoon, come back on the same line in the evening. Ask reception for the times.

Swap by Season

July–August

Replace day three with Gömbe: 66 km north and 1,200 metres up, cedar forest and a lake that stays at 12 degrees. Eight degrees cooler than the coast. On day one, stretch the siesta from three to five.

May–June, September–October

The plan as it is. The sea is swimmable, the roads are empty, there's room at Kaputaş. These are Kaş's best months, and these three days at their best.

November–March

Boats mostly don't run on day two; swap in the Kaş–Limanağzı stage of the Lycian Way, or Xanthos and Letoon. On day three Kaputaş is for walking, not swimming; Patara's empty sands are another option.

If you have four days

Add an ancient-cities day: Myra and the Church of St Nicholas at Demre (45 km), or Xanthos and Patara. With five, Tlos and Saklıkent.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are three days enough for Kaş?

For the town, Kekova and Kaputaş, yes. The ancient cities, Meis and Gömbe need another day or two; suggestions for a fourth day are above.

Should I hire a car?

For this plan, only on day three. Parking in town is hard; the first two days are on foot and by boat. For a car-free day three, the Kaş–Kalkan minibus passes right by Kaputaş.

Which day for Kekova?

The middle one. On day one you settle into town and book the boat; the last day is the road and getting ready to leave. If the forecast is windy, swap the boat day with day three.

What time should I get to Kaputaş?

Early; the roadside car park fills after eleven. The water is at its best colour between eleven and two, when the sun drops into the cove.

Does the same plan work with children?

Days one and two do; for the boat day choose life jackets and a boat with shade. On day three, Kaputaş’s stairs and lack of shade are hard with small children; Patara, or a second town day at Büyük Çakıl, is easier.

How does the hotel help with the plan?

Boat bookings, car hire, minibus times and ferry days — just write to reception; an early breakfast is arranged for boat day.

This plan was written in October 2026. Distances are by road from Luna Kaş; boat, minibus and ferry times change with the season.
