When we think of summer, sea holidays usually come to mind first. But when it comes to our magical town Kaş, there is always more than just the sea. That’s why, as Luna Hotel, we wanted to introduce you to a unique activity that you won’t easily find elsewhere.
Thanks to the horse farms in Kaş, offering beautiful routes, you can experience the joy of horse riding in a setting that will captivate you with its light and unique nature. If you want to completely clear your mind during your holiday in Kaş, riding a horse in a peaceful and friendly environment will be just what you need. Since we believe it’s also a perfect way to feel freedom and tranquility, we wanted to share all the information you might need.
Horse Safari
First of all, let’s mention that you have two options for horse riding while staying in Kaş. There are two horse farms in the Kaş region—one in Çukurbağ Village and the other in Patara. Before going into detail about both, let’s briefly remind you of what makes the Lycian region special, so you can better imagine the atmosphere of this experience.
The Lycian Way
The Lycian Way stretches from Fethiye to Antalya. This route, historically known as the Lycian region on the Teke Peninsula, mostly consists of walking trails. As it passes through an ancient landscape, you’ll encounter not only breathtaking natural views but also ancient ruins along the way. While it is mostly used for hiking, exploring it on horseback offers a completely different kind of experience.
The horse farms in Patara and Çukurbağ Village organize tours to offer this experience to their guests. That’s why horseback tours along the Lycian Way are among the most attractive activities you can do in Kaş. And the best part is, you don’t need prior riding experience. Even if you’ve never ridden a horse before, there’s nothing to worry about. The experienced staff at these farms will guide you through the process with ease. Even if you think you might be afraid of horses, we suggest you don’t worry—these horses are specially trained, and you can safely ride along pre-determined routes. Once you fully immerse yourself in the moment, we’re sure you’ll create unforgettable memories and want to repeat the experience as soon as possible.
It’s also worth noting that for beginners, trial rides are offered in the training arena before heading out onto the Lycian Way. You’ll receive guidance from experienced instructors until you feel ready, along with useful information about the horses. And of course, riding along the Lycian Way is not your only option—you can also enjoy a safe and relaxing ride within the arena itself. This is especially enjoyable for children.
Horse riding is an activity suitable for all ages. The connection you form with the horses often leaves you feeling refreshed and renewed by the end of the day. Since all rides are conducted with helmets, you can be sure you’ll be safe throughout the experience. The horses follow familiar routes at a calm pace, allowing you to step away from the rush of daily life and experience a slower, more mindful rhythm. By the end of the day, you’ll not only have learned about the region but also gained insight into the local wildlife.
Kaş Horse Farm
Kaş Horse Farm is the one located closer to the town center. You can reach Çukurbağ Village, where the farm is located, in just 10 minutes by car. If you don’t have a car, no problem—you can also easily get there by minibuses departing frequently from the center.
Kaş Horse Farm also has a countryside café. So even if not everyone in your group wants to ride, others can relax here while some enjoy horseback riding. You can sip drinks and enjoy snacks while watching your child learn to ride in the arena. We especially recommend visiting in the morning or evening hours.
If you plan to join a horse safari, you should expect a tour lasting approximately 2.5 hours. These tours can be done in small groups (up to six people) or even as a private experience for two.
This journey offers you the chance to explore the legendary “Sleeping Giant” landscape you may have already heard about. The route takes place entirely in nature, without entering asphalt roads. The Sleeping Giant rock formations are about one hour away from the farm, meaning you’ll be riding for about an hour before reaching them. Once there, you’ll take a break and enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of Kaş, including the peninsula, Limanağzı, and Meis Island. We probably don’t need to say how stunning the view is—but be prepared, you may not get enough of taking photos.
Afterwards, you’ll ride for another hour back to the farm, completing your journey. While you’re here, you can also visit Düşler Akademisi, which is within walking distance of Kaş Horse Farm. If you haven’t been before, this place—run entirely by volunteers and focused on social responsibility projects—offers a deeply meaningful experience. Even without an appointment, you can learn about their work with the help of volunteers, making your day even more special.
You can easily find companies in Kaş that organize horse safari tours and provide transportation from the town center. Alternatively, you can contact Kaş Horse Farm directly for pricing and tour details.
Patara Horse Farm
Although Patara Horse Farm is located a bit farther from Kaş center, it is still a fantastic alternative. Located in Gelemiş Village, it offers a unique route that includes Patara’s incredible landscapes. This tour takes you along the famous Patara Beach, across its legendary sand dunes, and along parts of the Lycian Way. Riding a horse along Patara’s golden sands is truly a one-of-a-kind experience. Even if it feels a bit far, the route offered by Patara Horse Farm is so beautiful that you won’t want to miss it. Just imagine—exploring an ancient city on horseback while also observing historical structures. On top of that, you’ll pass through areas where Caretta caretta turtles nest, cross the sand dunes, and witness a stunning sunset.
You can also join this tour in the morning if you prefer. The approximately 18 km route at Patara Horse Farm is available every day, both in the morning and in the afternoon. The 2.5-hour activity starts at 7:30 AM and 4:30 PM daily.
Maybe until now, you’ve only experienced Patara Beach by swimming and sunbathing on a lounger. If you’re ready for something different, it’s not too late. All you need to do is contact Patara Horse Farm to explore it on horseback.
After reading all this, we wouldn’t be surprised if you can’t decide and want to try both experiences. 🙂
